Time For A Change
Fourteen years later, fans still bustle and sing along to Tim Kasher's visceral screams of emotional anguish as Cursive played to a tight crowd at The El Rey Theatre.
Cursive reached critical acclaim six years ago with the release of The Ugly Organ when every indie publication seemed to rally behind Cursive's temperamental appeal. Yet year after year, the band has watched other Saddle Creek artists such as Bright Eyes and Rilo Kiley move on to bigger and better things.
At the El Rey however, it was evident Cursive fans remained fervent as ever singing along to every word and emotional outburst from frontman Tim Kasher.
Their newest album, Mama, I'm Swollen is a departure of sorts from their less moody works of previous years, but Cursive has every right to mature and reflect on their angular despairs of the past.
The album's finale and introspective anthem What Have I Done remains one of the most definitive tracks in their long career.
