Fourth of July
For indie music fans everywhere, the sole fact that Jenny Lewis was born in the States is enough to inspire devoted patriotism.
How appropriate then that among New York’s fourth of July festivities was a free show featuring our favorite Las Vegas native.
Exhibiting a penchant for dressing to fit the occasion, she appeared on stage clad in bold American hues of red and blue as fans gathered around securing their positions in Battery Park.
Lewis was propelled to legendary status as frontwoman of Rilo Kiley alongside fellow child actor, Blake Sennett. The possibilities of a solo album were first discussed in 2004 when Conor Oberst - also performing at the event with his Mystic Valley Band - invited Jenny to record with Team Love Records. She’s been making waves as a solo artist ever since Rabbit Fur Coat in 2006. The follow-up, Acid Tongue - released in autumn of 2008 sans The Watson Twins - broadened her diverse range and songwriting abilities, earning her a continuously growing fanbase.
The world has witnessed the staggering evolution of Jenny Lewis from her humble Troop Beverly Hills days to the sexy indie siren she's become. We will be waiting with bated breath to see what she has up her sleeve next.
