What can I say? It's Jarvis! Legendary ex-frontman of Pulp razzled and dazzled the Los Angeles crowd with his charismatic charm and his incredibly energetic performance.
Never had I seen such a slanky pencil-stick of a man in his forties 'oooh' the crowd so much with his trademark mannerisms. When he wasn't jumping, kicking or screaming, Jarvis had the time to deliver nuggets of information to his fans that only a wise-man could deliver. For example, did you know The Wiltern was named after the cross streets Western and Wilshire that it's located on? I'm from Los Angeles and never made that connection! Thanks Jarvis. Later on Jarvis articulated the art-deco stylings of the sky scraper inspired decor of the ceiling. What an arty guy!
A lot of smiles and a few squeals followed by shouts of "Jarvis!" were exacerbated during the night as Jarvis playfully interacted with his audience. During the show some fan who came all the way from Paris handed Jarvis a tin of biscuits. How fitting.
Jarvis Cocker's brilliant second solo album Further Complications is out now.
