DO YOU LIKE ROCK MUSIC?
Tonight the forces of evil were out in full force trying to prevent the forces of good (in the form of music) from triumphing over the rockless crowd in Los Angeles.
An unresponsive monitor. A blown out amp. Machines refusing to accept commands. Their guitars were seemingly detuning themselves mid-performance as if the ghosts of ragtime were causing mischief against the forces of ROCK.
But British Sea Power was determined to overcome these malignant forces.
It's 1:20am and the only people left at The Echo are the British Sea Power faithful who have waited two years for their triumphant return.
Despite all the troubles, BSP guitarist Martin Noble stares out into the crowd. A stubborn one-tracked man possessed with a single purpose. To salvage the night's battle and sail an unsurfable crowd of skinny twenty-somethings and curious hipster girls.
As he steps out his foot, the few remaining fans of ROCK part ways like the Red Sea from the fear of being crushed by a large British man in uniform.
Just when hope seems lost and the battle for ROCK over, an equally large middle-aged stranger comes out of the darkness and places Noble and ROCK music on his shoulders.
It's a heavy burden for one person to be carrying the hopes of ROCK music in Los Angeles but a necessary one.
This is why British Sea Power's latest album and inquiry Do You Like Rock Music? is one of the most important questions you'll ask yourself this year.
Do You Like Rock Music? has made things personal as British Sea Power has declared war on your musical tastes. But you don't have to like this album or the band to appreciate their irreverent boldness to ask such a divisive question.
Well, the reviews are in and the lines have been drawn.
There are those who love Do You Like Rock Music? and those who don't
I, for one, can proudly say I DO. Which side are you on?
