Sick. The only word to describe A Place To Bury Strangers performance at the Echoplex in Los Angeles last Friday. Before the show, the band tweeted a simple message, "Time to Rock LA" and that they did. Ever since I briefly saw them at Coachella earlier this year, I've been anticipating their 'total sonic annihaltion' to arrive in Los Angeles again. And you know it's a good sign when they sell ear plugs at their merch booth.
The night ended with their strobe filled explosion Ocean - an aural assault filled with distortion, noise, and lead singer Oliver Ackermann wrestling and flailing his guitar around squeezing every last drop of delayed fuzz out of its over-driven pickups. I'm surprised the band doesn't encounter more technical problems with the amount of abuse their equipment receives.
Exploding Head, out now on Mute Records, is highly recommended. Don't miss out.
Um, here are some ridiculous pictures.
