SGINNED - Never Let You Go

Hilarious. That's the only way to describe this collaboration by Caroline Polachek from Chairlift and Jorge Elbrecht from Violens. Well, besides perhaps another very appropriate way to describe it: amazing. Kudos to Pitchfork for notifying the blogosphere about this video; it was too good for me not to share.

For the video, Caroline & Jorge collectively and specifically wrote a song to phonetically match up to teen pop sensation Justin Bieber's official music video for his hit "Never Let You Go" (what they call a "SGIN", hence the name SGINNED). What ensues is an amusing illusion of Justin singing their new composition - one quite different from his. Generic pop lyrics such as "Cause this life's too long/And this love's too strong/So baby know for sho/That I'll never let you go" are replaced with more interesting imagery like "Your face and your hands/Exchange no man's advice/But your hips tell time/I'm gonna close your eyes open".

The lyrics are admittedly - at moments - gibberish just for the sake of making phonetic sense, but all things considered, this is a solid song without the Justin Bieber schtick. Just one of the many reasons why I love Caroline Polachek.

Edit: the video above has since been removed, but you can still witness the hilarity by clicking right over here.
