New Music: Frankie Rose and the Outs - Little Brown Haired Girls

Whenever my eyes spot a band photo consisting of girls clad in retro clothing, my heart automatically skips a beat. Whether it's just the fact I'm enchanted by the choices in fashion, or whether homages to eras gone by instantly attract me like honey to bears, there's no denying I'm a sucker for this kind of stuff. Thanks, Frankie Rose and the Outs, for initially catching my attention with your fashionable senses.

In early May, Dee Dee of the Dum Dum Girls explained here in an interview that their drummer, Frankie Rose had split from the band to focus on her own project, aptly named Frankie Rose and the Outs. Rose has also drummed for Crystal Stilts and Vivian Girls (my favorite Viv Girls song - Where Do You Run To - was penned by her), but those past projects didn't stick, either.

Now free of touring commitments, she's had time to focus on her band, which will be releasing their debut album September 21st on Slumberland. Of her new material, Frankie says:

"I tried to make this album as hi-fi as possible while sticking to the sounds that I've always loved. I grew up listening to a lot of musicals and Gilbert and Sullivan operas, so harmonies are a given. I also was drawn to anything spooky as a kid - 'Good Vibrations' still kinda scares me. Reverb puts a haze on everything, you know?"

The first song up for download off the upcoming self-titled release, "Little Brown Haired Girls" is available below.
