Dressed up in their standard all black and fancy stockings, LA-based headliners Dum Dum Girls rocked it out during their performance at their sold out show last night at the Echo.

The crowd packed in like sardines for the event. After watching three opening bands - first Soft Healer, then Dunes and finally Crocodiles (photos of which to come soon!) - you could tell the audience was a bit weary until the girls took the stage at midnight. Though I too was already sweaty and jostled from the earlier sets, my energy was renewed as they began playing.

Dee Dee led the band with an air of confidence and sexiness, belting out the songs with more growl and power than you'll hear on the recordings. She swayed furiously from side to side with her guitar throughout the show, knees bending up and down. While on the other hand, the other members played with impressively stoic faces and bodies during the entire night (drummer not included, but come on - that doesn't count! Drummers have to move). One surprising element about their set was that about half of the songs they chose to play weren't on their debut album I Will Be - there were just as many from their EP and singles, I'd say. It was an unexpected, but refreshing touch.

By the end, it was nearly 1 AM on a week night. I was absolutely exhausted, sure, but it was all worth it to see one of my favorite new bands live for the first time.
