Opening for Au Revoir Simone last Thursday night at the Echoplex, New York native Alexa Wilding performed an intimate, soothing set for the crowd. On stage, Wilding is the epitome of the word "endearing." It's only her - adorned in a black dress - strumming away on her guitar (or for a few tunes, tinkering away at the keyboard), her voice accompanying the acoustics as sweetly and smoothly as melted chocolate. Smiles and "thank you's" were also abundant from the singer-songwriter as she played her set, underscoring her sheer likeability and innate friendliness.
Alexa's songwriting inspiration often comes from personal tales and experiences; she introduces many of her songs by referring to them as one of her stories, which only adds to the already established affinity. By the end of the performance, a once-stranger felt like a friend, though I hadn't spoken a word to her.
Alexa Wilding's self-titled debut EP can be found here on iTunes.
