Watch Out: Apache Beat

Of all places, of all blogs I regularly read, I heard about Apache Beat from a fashion site in a post giving an appreciative nod to frontwoman Illirjana Alushaj's personal style. Although her threads certainly are top notch judging from the photos I've seen, her band's music is what I'm more interested in.

Take their first single "Tropics", for example. Lead singer Illirjana's voice comes belting through the speakers, commanding the listener with rich, forceful presence. The remaining members accompany her robust vocals with jungle-like drum beats, droning synths and guitars. Upon first listen, you might be scratching your head trying to figure out how all these contributions fit together. However, by the second listen, all the elements will melt into a delectable, rhythmic concoction that makes perfect sense.



The Brooklyn five-piece first released "Tropics" single back in 2007, with their "Your Powers Are Magic" single to subsequently follow in 2008, but they are finally releasing their debut LP this fall. So, definitely watch out for Last Chants which is hitting shelves October 5th. If their singles are any indication, it's sure to make a splash.
