New Music: Lissie - Bully

July 27, 2010

Liz Caruso

We've been following Lissie, an earnest singer-songwriter that fuses alt-country music with classic pop and folk touches since before her Why You Runnin' EP was released last year to one of her first headlining shows and now finally to the upcoming release of her first LP. Catching a Tiger will see daylight August 17th on Fat Possum.

via press release:

Catching A Tiger, produced by Jacquire King (Kings Of Leon, Norah Jones, Modest Mouse) and Bill Reynolds (of Band of Horses), expands upon the resonant alt-country and haunting, soulful ballads of last fall's arresting Why You Runnin' EP (Fat Possum). Exhibiting Lissie's remarkable range and versatility, the album is a seamless union of classic, early '60s-flavored pop ("Bully," "Stranger," "Everywhere I Go"), stirring, spirited folk ("Little Lovin', "Look Away"), and brilliant, unbridled pop/rock ("In Sleep," "When I'm Alone").

The first taste from the album, "Bully", is available to download below. It's introduced as a simple medley of piano and guitar combined with Lissie's twanging, emotion-fueled vocals, and then sweeps you away with dreamy, echoing reverb and drums.
