Violens - "Acid Reign"
August 23, 2010
Liz Caruso
I've developed a friendly curiosity about Violens ever since one of its members, Jorge Elbrecht, created a hilarious collaboration with Caroline Polachek of Chairlift in the form of a SGIN. In other words, a newly created song dubbed over the original video of Justin Bieber's "Never Let You Go" to make it look like Top 40 tween Bieb is singing the emotionally poetic lyrics.
Well, turns out Violens is pretty darn good by their own merit. The group is currently prepping their debut album to be released soon on Friendly Fire, and "Acid Reign" is an enticing preview. The song achieves a certain freshness by adorning the catchy, chorus-fueled melody with touches of instrumentation that manage to deepen your interest in the listen.
This three-piece also has a penchant for making mixtapes, so after you're done listening to "Acid Reign" below, check out their Summer 2010 Mix Tape that's being made freely available for download on their site. It includes remixes tossed with covers, the aforementioned SGIN (which - I've said it before and I'll say it again - is a good song even without the giggle-inducing video Jorge and Caroline made) and song picks from other great artists.
