The Mae Shi
The Mae Shi has been making a lot of noise this year with their experimental brand of noise pop. Known for their energetic and off-beat performances, you never know what to expect from these guys on any given night.
Tonight, look to your right, you'll see someone on the ground screaming into their microphone. Look behind you, you'll see at least one member in the crowd playing guitar or mingling with the crowd. To the center, there's some dude playing with duct tape for god knows what reason.
Yet with all this happening, their borderline chaotic act fits right in with their music. Part thrash, part electronic, part pop. The band members are seemingly interchangeable as microphones and instruments are frequently exchanged.
While I always assumed the band would probably just be happy with a niche following of local underground youths, The Mae Shi are finally taking a stab this year at nationwide indie success with their recently released and blogger approved full-length album HLLLYH.
Are they worth the hype? Who knows. Just watch their video and find out for youself!
