Want to know my favorite thing about The Drums? (Besides their beautifully crafted indie pop music, of course.) It's the way they move on stage - in a way that's simply captivating and unlike anything I've seen at any other show. Lead singer Jonathan Pierce treads across the stage at times like he's wading through water, and at other times spastically transports his body from one edge of the stage to the other within seconds. He's always gesticulating in some interesting manner, or twirling around the microphone, or shaking and bending his body, all while maintaining the excellent quality of his voice. Truly an impressive feat.
Then, you cannot forget guitarist Jacob Graham, who moves as if his instrument is his dance partner - at times it's as if they're dancing a delicate waltz, at times it's a jumpier moment. And although founding member Adam Kessler has sadly departed the band, I wouldn't say the group is missing anything without him. A truly spectacular show is what you'll get when you go see The Drums - so I highly recommend getting your butt out to see them while they're still touring.
Amoreena Lucero was at The Drums' San Francisco date to take photos of the band, as well as openers The Young Friends and Surfer Blood. Click here to check them out!
