With temperatures peaking near the 80's this past week, it might as well have been summer in LA. The shimmery folk tunes of Pepper Rabbit fit the weather perfectly when they opened up for Passion Pit last Tuesday at the Hollywood Palladium. The Silver Lake trio combines the hazy dream-pop of Beach House with the folk-country twinge of Wilco. Pepper Rabbit offers up a refreshing take on lo-fi music with their multi-instrumentalism. Horns, piano, accordion, and plucky banjo in addition to the percussion provided by Luc Laurent and bass by Shay Spence flush out songs on their debut full length album, Beauregard.
During their set, Xander Singh calmly rotated between keyboards, guitar and ukulele all the while singing melodies with a soothing voice. Their track, "Harvest Moon," moves accordingly with a sort of haunting elegance that you can practically waltz to with the time signature. After a brief introduction to their last song, "None Shall Sleep," they bid the crowd good night.
Pepper Rabbit continues on tour with dates supporting Ra Ra Riot and Miniature Tigers in the new year.
