Cults Announce Debut LP, Tour Dates

January 5, 2011

Liz Caruso

2010 was an odd year. By that, I guess I could mean many things, but think of it this way: it was a year where an abruptly popular music website, otherwise known as bandcamp, took the place of myspace and acted as a platform for ushering in a flood of obscure, mysterious new bands into the blogosphere. Among the most notable was Cults, whose first single "Go Outside" and its innocent charm was enough to garner the attention of... well, nearly everyone with an indie music blog and a working set of ears. If you haven't heard it yet, you must not take your hipsterdom seriously.

It was too obvious, after this tornado of praise followed by festival bookings and supporting tours across the US that a record label would snatch them up soon. The only part I find puzzling is that the lucky suitor turned out to be In the Name Of / Columbia Records. (Columbia has Susan Boyle signed, guys, come on!?)

In any case, I am excited to hear that the release of their first full-length will be coming this spring, and you should be too, especially given the fact they are currently in the studio with producer Shane Stoneback of Sleigh Bells and Vampire Weekend fame. Ah, it's like a bandcamp Cinderella story. I love fairy tales.

Check out their upcoming tour dates and an MP3 grab of their song "Oh My God" below!
