Mainstream Indie?
"Eminem Stays Atop Billboard 200. Grizzly Bear, Manson Debut Top 10." - Billboard 200 - June 3, 2009
Did I read that correctly? Never would I have imagined Eminem, Manson, and experimental folk-rockers GRIZZLY BEAR topping the charts on Billboard in the same week. But it happened.
Such was the result of the most anticipated indie album to be released this year thanks to an early March leak of their latest album Veckatimest which caused early adopting bloggers and mainstream publications to declare the record as the best of 2009.
Many felt the band reached its peak when they opened for Radiohead last year, but now it's difficult to find tickets for Grizzly Bear's biggest headlining tour ever. On back to back nights, they sold out the spacious Wiltern and the more intimate Troubadour in Los Angeles.
There are similar reports around the country with numerous consecutive sold-out shows and last second additions to their schedule.
So if you're the type that enjoys riding the wave of indie hype, you can purchase their album - out now - or catch them at the Pitchfork Music Festival in July!
