Higher Hopes
Pots and pans were handed out to the audience as Oakland based rockers Port O'Brien ended the night with their riotous anthem I Woke Up Today.
Fans banged and clamored for an encore but to no avail.
Much like the crowd, there's been a steady build-up for Port O'Brien this year. The band has been busy on the road since their first studio recorded album All We Could Do Was Sing was released in 2007. Overnight, the band gained instant credibility when M. Ward mentioned Port O'Brien as his favorite new band in an interview from Pitchfork.
Although the band showed tremendous potential in 2007, they are poised this year to hopefully break free from their folky sea inspired music with the release of their third LP Threadbare. Partly produced in Los Angeles by Earlimart's Aaron Espinoza, the album is said to feature darker themes that deal with the "changes in one's life following tragedy."
Threadbare comes out September 29, 2009.
